The Misplaced Comedy Group found it's beginning in 1999, after several of Steve's comical snippets were broadcast on the radio. His early sketches of "The Elderly Superfolkes" were even being considered for sponsorship through a major beer distributor for the afternoon drive time slot. While filling out several On-Line petitions that friends had given him on the treatment of the people in Afghanistan, he started writing harder comical sketches to help people become more aware of various living conditions. It was after the attacks on 9/11 that Misplaced Comedy's 3rd CD "The Afghan Files" was released. "The Afghan Files" became one of the most downloaded CDs on MP3.com's website for that year, competing with the likes of Britney Spears & Afroman. "The Bin Laden Banana Boat Song" climbed and stayed at the #1 spot on MP3.com's charts for almost 6 straight months! Even though the CD wasn't considered 'mainstream', the comedy group was constantly asked to perform Live, at several charitable functions for the American Red Cross, as well as to assist in entertaining various troops in South Carolina. Misplaced Comedy consisted of Co-Founder Jeffrey Prekop, fellow comedienne Jennifer Feliciano and Jeff's older brother Dave Prekop. John Gradick, Steve's former boss at Adventure Radio, also lent his skills on voicing a few of the characters found on the CD... But it was the original four that started performing the live show "Theater Games". The "Theater Games" live performances gave way to break the rules of live comedy, as audiences weren't aware of shows like "Whose Line..." at the time and most comedy shows were only classified as "Stand-Up Comedy" performances. "Theater Games" involved both elements, implementing several people performing Stand-up, while keeping the crowds motivated with games/handles that required audience participation. At the time no other troop seemed to be doing this, while at the same time, promoting a downloadable CD available on the Internet. After several months of constant work, the original troop disbanded and Steve continued Misplaced Comedy in Florida, with a whole new set of players. The Following CD, "Good Eats" still had the sarcastic ties from the previous CD's, yet added another avenue to the live shows... with sketches and music. Several songs were heard on morning radio, as well as the syndicated classic "Dr. Demento Show!" The NEW "Theater Games" shows involved live sketches heard from the previous CDs, as well as several of their new top ranked songs mixed in with the various games and stand-up comedy. With this new combined form, the new audiences of Florida became confused as to what they were watching... because it had never been done before, yet internet demographics and CD sales outside the State showed that there was still interest. In October 2004, both "Absurd Sensationalism" and "Misplaced Holidays" were released as to follow up the beginnings of a new and improved website, designed and manufactured by Bob!, Steve's lifelong friend and now member of Misplaced Comedy. The website included pictures and video from the previous live shows, as well as updates and various interactive pages to include those who went on the site. The new website also let Misplaced Comedy dive into something completely new to the masses... Podcasting. In 2005, thanks to Bob's wonderful wisdom, The first Misplaced Podcast was released... making sport of the few podcasts that were available at the time as well as those with little to no public speaking experience. Within 2 weeks, the Misplaced Comedy Podcast was listed on every available podcasting directory, as well as Apple's iTunes, who were just starting to promote the technology themselves. By the end of 2006, Misplaced Comedy was given several production awards for their various means of presenting a 'showcase' within their podcast, rather than having just people talking. Shortly after... everyone, including well known radio personalities started to flood the realm of podcasting which has now become better known as the TiVo for Radio. In 2006, Misplaced Comedy was involved in writing and recording for a new CD, producing various videos and podcasts for the internet... and getting ready to set another standard for their live show using "Interactive Video". On a trip to Walt Disney World, Steve became inspired to try various ways to implement projected video within live interactive audiences and perform a 3 way conversation using various mediums at the same time... Thus, the birth of "Misplaced Mayhem - Live and Video Show". The Live and Video Show included everything the other shows had, as well as The Misplaced Wall (Inspired by Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In), live music, sketches, improv, stand-up comedy... and now a ten foot video screen where Steve was able to interact 'warm-ups' with the audience at the beginning of the show. The video screen also allowed them to play previously recorded videos, while cast members changed for the upcoming sketch. This left absolutely no 'dead time' in between each bit, so the audience was never left sitting still with the possibility of becoming bored, often found at many observed comedy showcases. This was another achievement, as this kind of performance had never been accomplished before by any other comedy act... ever. The release of The MCG's 9th CD, "Unreal Estate", a parody of what was soon to become a reality for the US Economy and Housing Markets, had yet several more Number One singles, as well as being implemented on the TV Show inspired "American Idol Underground" website. Their CDs have become available throughout every On-Line music store on the internet and can be made available to over 2500 retail stores throughout the United States. Their video productions have found their way throughout the internet as well, granting a larger demographic audience the ability to 'see' the characters portrayed on their many CDs. By 2007, The Misplaced Comedy Group was in American Idol Magazine as being one of the "Best Emerging Artists" of the year. Right now, The Misplaced Comedy Group are attempting to create more awareness to bring them from an independent status to a more mainstream medium.
